Chessie Talk - Protective Instincts

The Chesapeake is very serious about his protective instinct. They make excellent watch/guard dogs. Nothing is more important than guarding his home and family.

Obedience to you from your Chessie is of most importance. If your dog does not respect you as being in charge you can have some tough situations to deal with.

You must be "top dog". This does not mean berating the dog. For he is merely following his instincts that were bred in him. You must let him know that "you know best" and can handle the situation. When there is no effort made to handle the situation, the Chesapeake will try to exert his abilites of guarding to protect his home and family.
